All Faiths Food Bank:
The AFFB is the hub of hunger relief for Sarasota & DeSoto Counties. Their vision is to eliminate hunger in all our communities and also provide nutrition education. The AFFB sees providing food as the first step in a holistic response to meeting the needs of our hungry neighbors and helping them move toward independence. Bee Ridge Presbyterian members volunteer at a variety of AFFB sites, make financial contributions, and donate food to the AFFB barrel located on our campus.
Family Promise of Sarasota:
Family Promise serves homeless families with compassion and dignity. Their professional staff helps families create and carry out comprehensive programs for tackling jobs, life skills, child care, and related issues as they seek housing. Other social service agencies in the community screen and refer families to Family Promise, and also help provide resources for Family Promise clients. An interdenominational network of church congregations in the community provide overnight shelter, meals and hospitality. The Family Promise Day Center serves families during the day. Bee Ridge Presbyterian members volunteer to help with meals, hospitality, transportation, and financial contributions.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance:
PDA is a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) team that helps congregations reach out with the healing love of Christ by caring for communities adversely affected by crisis and catastrophic events. Trained members of the PDA team respond immediately when traumatic events occur within our country and throughout the world. Bee Ridge Presbyterian members make financial contributions to support PDA and have joined other Presbyterian churches in traveling to help with on-site recovery efforts.
Resurrection House serves as a day resource center to the homeless of Sarasota County. It is an interdenominational community ministry that serves individuals who have suffered crisis in their lives, find themselves on the street. These clients often feel trapped, helpless and unable to regain their place in society. Resurrection House's range of services includes showers, restrooms, laundry, counseling, medical treatment, food, clothing, veteran's assistance, post office, phone and many more. Bee Ridge Presbyterian volunteers help provide medical care, share friendship, make financial contributions, and donate clothing items to the Resurrection House collection basket located on our campus.
Relay for Life:
Sarasota's annual Relay For Life is an American Cancer Society community fundraising event to help improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers. This includes an overnight community fundraising walk. Teams of people camp out overnight around the Sarasota High School track and take turns walking around the track. Food, games and activities provide entertainment in a family-friendly environment for the entire community. Bee Ridge Presbyterian members annually walk in the Relay for Life, participate on a Relay "team," provide music, food, and make financial donations to this event.
Habitat for Humanity:
HFH partners with God and the Sarasota community to provide decent, affordable housing for people in need so they may build better lives for their families. Through a combination of sweat equity, volunteer hours, homeowner education classes and mentoring, HFH helps provide home ownership for people dreaming to escape the cycle of poverty and to establish hope in their lives. Bee Ridge Presbyterian members helps with weekly "hands-on" construction tasks & supervision, and also supports HFH with financial contributions.
Beth-El Farmworkers Ministry:
Beth-El Mission provides encouragement and assistance to farmworkers and their extended family members through open opportunities for worship, participation in Christian educational programs, and secular programs with various community partners. Beth-El is a tri-union mission, in covenant with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Peace River and Tampa Bay presbyteries. Bee Ridge Presbyterian members regularly donate food, clothing, and school supplies for Beth-El clients and also provide financial support for this Presbyterian ministry.
Foundation for International Missions:
FFIM exists to further the gospel of Jesus Christ by making a difference in the lives of people in other countries. FFIM has sponsored recent mission trips to Honduras that have helped provide dental, medical, and educational services and training for rural communities. Bee Ridge Presbyterian members participate in mission trips and financial support for this ministry.
Sarasota Young Voices:
SYV is a community choral group that offers children in southwest Florida the opportunity to sing quality music while serving their community by performing at concert series, churches, retirement homes, and other events. SYV also offers children the opportunity to tour out of county, state and country to participate in other musical events. Bee Ridge Presbyterian members join with other churches and community groups in providing volunteer time and financial contributions to SYV.
Assisted Living Facility Ministry:
Members of Bee Ridge Presbyterian regularly visit Assisted Living Facilities (ALF) to share music, devotional messages, and a caring presence. Musical gifts and skills shared by BRPC members include voice, piano, guitar, accordion, and harmonica.
Selah Freedom actively confronts the issue of sex trafficking and is being upheld as the statewide model for how to effectively bring solutions to survivors of sex trafficking & exploitation. Selah is a Hebrew word which means to pause, rest, and reflect. Selah Freedom gives survivors a chance to do just that ... to dream again; to discover who it is they were created to be. We are setting the standards and leading the implementation of best practices, programs, and services in the fight against sex trafficking. Selah Freedom is bringing light into the darkness of sex trafficking - changing communities and restoring survivors. Bee Ridge Presbyterian members volunteer as homework tutors for Selah Freedom clients, participate in fundraising events, and provide financial contributions.
